How do you kern in PowerPoint?

Put a word art object on your slide. Double click it and fire up the tool
box. From there, kern away...

Actually you can make all sorts of changes. (Kerning, Leading, Etc.)

It depends on how you define kerning.

On the Word Art toolbar, there's an AV button (far right)
That lets you adjust character spacing and turn automatic character pair
kerning off/on.

IOW, you can loosen or tighten the overall spacing of the text and tell Word
Art to tighten up pairs like AV and VW and so on.

You can't, however, kern arbitrary character pairs like you can with the better
drawing/illustration and DTP apps.
 
You could also kern in Word without using WordArt (format menu, font command,
character spacing tab); then do a print screen (PrtSc button) and paste into
a slide, then use the cropping tool from the picture toolbar to reduce the
image and perhaps set the background to transparent.
