Every time I want to do something like running a program, Vista
prompts for permissions. If I am logged on as Administrator, how do
you get rid of these prompts?
thanks.

Control Panel | User Accounts | Turn User Account Control on or off. Turn it
off.

Just because you can turn it of does not mean you should. How often do you
really do admin functions on your PC? UAC prevents malware from accessing
admin functions. It makes your administrative login function as a non-admin
user until you click on UAC. That click is not a lot to ask for in
comparison to the increased security it gives.

Thank you, that was simple enough. I did not understand what that
meant...

I recommend you not turn off UAC. Change apps to one that is coded properly
to not need administrative privileges.

I get the annoying prompts everytime I start Outlook 2007 so it must not
be properly coded

I don't have Outlook 2007 installed but I do have most of the other apps
from Office 2007 Professional Plus running in a standard user account. No
UAC prompts. I wonder if yours is a system issue, or it's just happens that
Outlook 2007 is the only app that prompts for it?

Nope just Outlook it all happened after I did the Anytime Upgrade before
that everything worked great

When I get a moment I'll install Outlook 2007, and see what happens.

I didn't get the prompts when I had Business Edition it just started
happening after the Ultimate Upgrade I think I am going to reinstall Office
already tried the repair option that didn't work.

I am so sick to death of this PERMISSIONS thing. I can't even MOVE a folder
from one place to the other on my computer. I can't do anything on my own
computer where only I have access.

Microsoft should have told people that Vista is for a COMPANY that is
NETWORKED, not individual users who have no one else looking at their
computers!!!!

I read in this forum where it says to go here:
Control Panel | User Accounts | Turn User Account Control on or off.

But when I get there the message says:
Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure.
Then there is a box that you can check: Use UAC to help protect your computer.

It doesn't say ON or OFF. So obvioulsy I did NOT check that box.

However, when I went to just MOVE a folder, it still says I need permission.

That is so ridiculous You would THINK if you get an error message that
says, "you need permission" that it would at least tell you HOW TO GET
PERMISSION.

Then I looked in a user guide that says if you want to share your whole
computer with everyone, that you right click the folder > share. That did
not work. When I tried to move it NOW it says that if I move it I can't
share it with anyone. I don't give a rat! I just want to move the dang
folder!!

Then the UG says, right click folder > properties > security tab > click
edit > click add > then you're supposed to add names or groups of names.

This is getting insane!!! I HATE VISTA!!! I wish I never got a new
computer with Vista!!!

I do not need PERMISSION to do ANYTHING on my own computer, and I can't seem
to remove this ridiculous Permissions.

Does anyone know how I can just remove it totally and be done with it! I do
not now or EVER want permission to have to use my own computer. No one else
will EVER be using it -- EVER!

I can't find the answers in two Vista books and I haven't found the answer
on the forums.

I agree I hate this Vista permission thing on my own at home
computer....Please post
the fix before I throw this thing away !!!!

Jim

That is so funny! I totally agree! I really want to send my computer off
the upper deck and just watch it as Vista explodes in a gazillion pieces.

You know, I just tried something and restarted my computer and was actually
able to MOVE the folder I was trying to move. I'm not saying this is a CURE
ALL because I normally have to have permission to just breathe while using
Vista, but it worked for moving this folder.

So try this:
Control Panel > User Accounts & Family Safety > User Accounts > then clear
down at the botton of that list is > Turn UAC on or off > then DO check the
box that says Use UAC to help protect your computer. Then restart your
computer.

See, I thought when it says USE UAC to help protect the computer, that if
you CHECK IT, you're agreeing to USE the UAC to protect the computer meaning
that you are turning it on.

But it wasn't working that way for me so I figured, what the heck, check the
box! Maybe it's backwards! So I checked the box, restarted my computer, and
when I went to move the folder I was just able to MOVE IT!

I was holding my breath, but it worked!

I'm not sure it will work continually, as checking that option says to me
that you WANT to use the UAC (permissions) to protect the computer. Wouldn't
ya think it'd say CHECK HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE THE UAC!

SO try that and see if it works for you.

Take your time and learn to read. TURN OFF UAC BY UNCHECKING IT IN CONTROL
PANEL....IN USER ACCOUNTS.

Now go study little fella.

D

Well, hate to disagree, but that did NOT WORK on my computer. And the
minute I CHECKED IT (because it had been UNCHECKED BEFORE) I was able to move
the folder.

So what can I say. Not like computers don't have glitches! Mine has been
UNCHECKED for QUITE SOME TIME!!!! And I have been asked a gazillion times
for PERMISSION to do this or that.

The minute I CHECKED IT and restarted the computer, I now was able to move
the folder and Vista did NOT tell me I needed PERMISSION!!

So....guess my computer works backwards huh! Because it's working THIS WAY!!

Now go study little fella.

And you could LOSE the JERK ATTITUDE! I think it's INAPPROPRIATE on a
forum!! Not like you're the no-it-all of all things! Not all computers are
alike!

I'm not a fella. I'm a woman! But I can see you are a jerk.

You CAN be kind on these forums and be HELPFUL and not a hindrance!

I've met people like you on forums before and they keep other people who
would love to ask a question from returning to ask!!!

If you make people feel uncomfortable for asking questions, or for trying to
help other people, then you don't belong on a forum!

That's what a forum is for! HELP!!!
