I have Vista Home Premium and this morning my wireless router died in
the middle of a reboot. I connected the Ethernet cable directly to
the cable modem. This should have worked! I did get a connection to
the modem but only Local Access not Internet.
I tried all sorts of things and spent lots of time talking to my ISP.
I plugged a second computer into the cable modem and the new network
was discovered and I selected "Home" and everything worked as it
should.
I decided to buy another wireless router and I tried following the
instructions on their CD but it failed on finding the Internet and
gave up. I just connected the router the way it should be connected
and turned on the computer. Vista discovered this router and again I
chose "Home" for the network type and Vista setup "Network 3".
Everything now works as it should.
What I want to know is how do I get rid of Network 1 and 2? I know
they are still there or this would not be called Network 3. There
should be some way to get rid of the router and connect directly to
the cable modem without having to do a clean install of Vista.
