I've been unable to get into the bios of this computer.
AMD k6-2, 400 mhz, 4 gig hard drive.
A compaq splash screen comes on when it boots,
and the best I can do is get it into safe mode with the F8 key.
Hitting delete, or control, or alt, or tab during the boot
doesn't do it, it just displays the word compaq in red
letters and then boots win98.
TIA for any ideas.

ps: do you think clearing the cmos would help?

Hmmmm, try F2.

F10 when splash screen showing, unless hidden partition has been
removed, when you will need setup diskettes from HP/COMPAQ web site.
Mike.

Thanks for the F2 tips, that did it.
Not much was going on in the bios, but I found one setting that switched
between full boot, and quick boot. it was set on quick, so I changed it to
full to see what happened. And guess what? The full boot setting does a
memory check, and half way through, it a reported bad memory location.

Ah ha! problem solved.

Thanks again,

mike
