How do you create a cascade or waterfall chart

I am looking for software tools and/or techniques for creating cascading and
waterfall charts . I'm guessing that regular Excel does not do this. What's
the best answer?

Thanks!! You have opened my eyes to a whole new set of capabilities in
Excel! You've ended frustrating hours of searching.

If you did want another program that works well you could try Mekko Graphics
it's very good at charting (and is a bit "prettier") but Excel works just
fine too as the others have pointed out but that's another option (albeit a
more expensive one).
