How do you convert sound files from one type to another?
I want to convert wma to mp3.

A quick Google search for Convert WMA MP3 yielded a lot of options.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=convert+WMA+MP3

http://www.audio-converter.com/ looked pretty promising. Free trial and
$14.95 to purchase. Or perhaps someone will be along shortly with a
specific recommendation. (I use Sound Forge at the office, but it's way
too expensive for a one-time thing. Sonic Foundry has a "baby brother"
sound program that I use at home, but I think it's about $100 or so...)

I think after looking that my question should have been
can I get wma files to play in powerpoint. I have been
trying to get some files that I got from buymusic.com to
insert in powerpoint. I get can't insert this file. Any
ideas why. You seem to have a good bit of knowledge on
this stuff

Actually, there are a lot of others here on the board who know *much*
more about multimedia and PPT than I do! But my first guess would be
it's a codec issue--if buymusic.com used a nonstandard codec on the WMA,
it may not play in PPT. Actually, that would be my second guess. My
first would be that your MCI settings need to be changed.

Have you read
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm ? This
gives specific instructions for testing your file to see if it should
play in PPT. Read it carefully a couple of times.

"If you have a Multimedia file you want to test for compatibility try
using the MCI Media Player. To do so click Start – Run, and in the
command line type "mplayer.exe" (or "mplay32.exe" for WinNT) and click
OK. This starts the MCI Media Player. Yes, it’s the same one you were
used to in earlier versions of Windows. Remember, I said the MCI has
been around a long time. Now with File – Open, navigate to the file you
want to test and see if it plays properly. If it does, it should work in
PowerPoint just fine, if it doesn’t play correctly it will NOT work in
PowerPoint. Folks it’s a simple test and can save you from hours of hair
pulling and low level cursing."

You need to test in the MCI Media Player, as that's what PPT uses to
play multimedia files; PPT doesn't use the Windows Media Player.

After that, you can check the specifics on your MCI settings at the
bottom of
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm#How

Converting the WMA to MP3 might be the easiest solution, though,
assuming that MP3 files play in PPT for you.

I will venture to say that if you bought the music from buymusic.com it has
DRM controls in place that will not allow you to use it in this manner.
