Hello,

I am having trouble accessing files on another computer
in my network. Both Computers are on XP, and are
connected via a router. When you try accessing a file on
the other computer, it sais:

\\oldcomputer\james is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. The network path was not found.

With thanks,
James.

Firstly - ensure you are a valid user of the computer you
are tring to access and that you have administrator rights.

You can set this up on a windows xp system by right
clicking on My Computer, select Manage, Local Users and
Groups, Users.

If you aren't in this list, right click on a blank part of
the list page and select New User. Enter your name and
password - just as you enter on your LOCAL computer.

Set the option so that the user cannot change password.
Click Create + Close.

Right click on the user you have just created and select
Properties, and then, Member of. Add administrator rights
and you are done.

Close all windows and press F5. Hopefully this will solve
your problems.
