error message "excel lexicon missing (c:\microsoft\excel\xl5en32.olb)

Jan, thanks for responding. Yes we do. Microsoft Office Pro 95.

We bought a new computer with Window Vista Home Pemium. When we deleted
Office07 Trial that came with computer, we lost all historical Excel
files......

You should not have lost your historical Excel files (and I bet they are still
on your system). Rather, you are no longer able to open them because something
has gone wrong with setting up Excel/Office on your new computer.

I have little to no experience with Vista though, which I suspect is partly
causing the problem.

I think you need to log into Vista as an administrator and then run the Office
setup again. make sure you select a full install (you'll have plenty of room on
your Hard disk anyway, given that Office 95 is 12 years old it doesn't consume
much space).

If the install runs without errors everything should work as expected.
