I have a new HP computer w/XP Home pre-installed with
Microsoft Word. How do you change from single line
spacing in a MS word document to double line spacing?
Any assistance is appreciated.
Kindest Regards to all

With the cursor in the paragraph that you want to double-space (or with multiple paragraph
highlighted), select Format > Paragraph from the menu. On the Indents and Spacing tab
open the Line Spacing list and select double

Once you change the paragraph formatting, pressing Enter from within the paragrap
will repeat the formatting for succeeding paragraphs until you apply a different format

Alternatively, you can create a double-spaced paragraph style and apply it where eve
it's needed

Ted,
Depending on the version of Word, in Word 2000 you can add a button to your
formatting toolbar. Just hit the little arrow at the end of your toolbar and
choose add ... you will find it in the list. In Word 2002 there is allready
a button on the toolbar to do just what you want.

I use XP Pro at work and still don't like the drop down menu
for line spacing - is this where I would find the individual
buttons I have on my toolbar for line spacing on my Word
2000 at home (Win98 se)? I thought I'd looked before this
and didn't find them, but maybe not.

Among Word's hundred's of hidden commands, all I can find is the standard
'drop down' line spacing command, single, 1½ and double spacing commands.
You will have to create macros if you want anything else.

Hi Ted:

You can simply place your cursor where you want to change the spacing
and hold down your Ctrl key and then depress 2 for double spacing or 1
for single spacing. Hope this is helpful for you!

You will have to create macros if you want anything else.

Don't know if this applies, but in my old Word 97, Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2 switch
between single and double space, while Ctrl-5 changes the selected text to
1.5 space.

Limited, but covers what most people need.
