I've noticed that Outlook emboldens folder and file names
when there is new mail; so, I know it's possible to
bolden folder and file names.

I want to do this myself (for other purposes) with
certain folders and files in Windows XP. Can anyone tell
me how this can be done?

This cannot be done. Outlook boldens the name of items that look like
folders in Outlook, but actually these are no file folders like the
ones in the Windows Explorer.
