How do I get Windows XP Pro to automatically remind me to send out a birthday
card on a specific date?

You don't. XP Pro is an operating system. You need some sort of
calendaring program that has reminders. I believe MS Works has one, as
does Outlook from MS Office. Otherwise, look at some of the links
brought up by Googling with the search term "calendar + reminder
programs":

I put this type of reminders in microsoft outlook under tasks and this page
is called <outlooktoday>. I configured such taht this outlooktoday opens
whenever I open the computer.

Write a reminder in Notepad and save to disk, then use your Task Scheduler
to launch the Text file that has the reminder on a specific date and time.

Outlook is NOT part of Windows - unless the OP has installed Office then
he hasn't got outlook.

Correct, with a minor addition: besides being available as part of Microsoft
Office, Outlook is also available by itself.

Absolutely. In my experience though, I've never met anyone who has
installed Outlook on it's own!

Now you have. ;-)

The first version of Outlook I was was Outlook 98, and it was a stand-alone
version. Now I have Outlook 2003 installed, but as part of Office 2003.
