How do I work with a shared database when I am on the road?

Using a shared database, how does one take his laptop and be able to access
the information offsite?

Marv,
Would be nice to have this function in BCM. As a reference you can detach a
database (use for reference only) if you are using Small Business Accounting.
If your BCM accounts correlate with SBA customers you have access to
information shared between BCM & SBA.
As mentioned this would be for reference only so you cannot make changes to
the db.
Would be nice to be able to take your laptop to a job site or client to
create an opportunity in BCM or change a quote in SBA. Or even reference an
opportunity to create a quote on site.

A suggestion for Microsoft:

With the upcoming release of a hosted on-demand service for their new CRM 3.0
they should also consider offering a less expensive web-hosted BCM service
whereby remote users could get their data from anywhere in real time with
just their PC client and a browser. (Think Salesforce.com) All of these
ongoing limited BCM synching and sharing hassles would be a thing of the past
with such an easy and affordable centralized data sharing service. Call me
an opportunistic entrepreneur if you will but based upon the number of
continuous problem posts to this newsgroup about this topic, I would suspecty
there to be one heck of a market out there for this type of thing if it were
priced right.

Hey Microsoft, truly be "Dynamic" and try to fill this unmet need.

Marv,
An update. There is a 3rd party app that I found today

Have not had time to investigate further, but seems interesting and relevant
to need.

So is there any way to "replicate" the BCM database for remote use? I
have 2 users who need to share the same db, and one has a laptop and
will at some times need to work remote, and have at least view access
to all the data in BCM. Is there really no way to support this in BCM?
It seems crazy to not support any kind of sync or detach of data.

Not natively in this version, hopefully in the next. SBA has this
functionality but it is for reference only. The addin I mentioned seems to
support this for both.

You can back up the db from machine A and restore it to machine B. This will
create a copy.

Another way is to export from machine A and import to machine B.

We have several users and use the Export / Import routine once a week. The
theory here is that you always have one machine with the latest and complete
d/b. At the start of the week you could back up the full d/b and distribute
it to others. This works OK for our puproses although not ideal.
