How do I wipe Window 2000 off PC

Hi

I have recently been given a old pc that has windows 2000 operating system
on it.

I am in the process of deleting all the programs on it, but as it did not
have any virus protection loaded on it, my only option is now to wipe the
system and to start again.

I only have an XP disc to load onto the PC - how do I wipe windows 2000 off ?

Can it be done in DOS ?

Boot from the WinXP CD. Remove the present partition, create a new partition and thee
format in NTFS.

Here is how you do it with a WinXP CD:
- Boot the machine with this CD.
- When given the option, delete all existing partitions.
- Stop the installation process right there (unless you
wish to install WinXP).

And here is the method for a DOS boot disk:
- Get a DOS boot disk from www.bootdisk.com.
- Run delpart.exe (http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm)

You can boot to the XP disc and in the options to install just wipe it
out....Or you can use FDISK from a Win98 boot disk to clear it.....Or,
find out what kind of HDrive you have & download the the utility disk to
completely wipe it.........

Minor correction: fdisk.exe from a Win98 boot disk will not
touch logical NTFS partitions, only primary ones.

Thanks, I made the assumption it was only one partition possible FAT32
and did not consider others....Ooooops.....THX again.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
