How do I view my Outlook 97 files on Outlook 2002

I store my Outlook 97 files from my desktop (which crashed) on my jump drive
as a backup. I removed the checkmark in the "read only" box, but when I try
to open Outlook 2002 on my laptop, no contacts appear. Just an empty template
for adding a new contact. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jack Evans

Start Outlook and then click File>Open>Outlook Data File. Browse to the PST
on the jump drive, select it, and click OK. If it's read-only, copy it to
your hard drive first, remove the read-only attribute, and open it there.

I did this but still no success. Only the blank template opened. I
even tried to install Microsoft Office 97 but couldn't. Please
advise.

If that's the case, then the PST was trash when it got written to the jump
drive. How did you create the copy on the jump drive?

The computer automatically creates the "archive" file. I created the backup
by copying the Outlook file located in the "My Documents" folder on the C
drive and pasted the copied file into my G drive/jump drive. I followed your
instructions from
there. The jump drive opened when attached to my desktop which has the
Outlook 97 program. I would open it after I pasted a file to make sure it was
there. It won't open when connected to my laptop which has the Outlook 2002
program. I suppose the currently installed Outlook 2002 program is preventing
me from also installing Outlook 97 on the same machine.? What do you think?
Thanks,
Jack

An archive is not a backup, just to be explicit.

Was Outlook closed when you did this?

You're correct in thinking you can't have more than one version of Outlook
installed on a single instance of Windows.

Probably, but I,m not 100% sure. Why do you ask?

Because copying a PST that Outlook is currently referencing is a recipe for
corruption of that PST.
