How do I view a downloaded file conversion?

I am being sent many files by my University which I am able to save but not
view. I am told that Windows does not recognise the way in which the file is
set up and asks me to convert it. How!!
 
What kind of files are these? The purpose of this particular newsgroup is to
answer questions about Access, the database program that's part of Office
Professional.

If you're talking about Access databases (.MDB files), then please provide a
few more details about the files if you can. Otherwise, I think you'll need
to find a more appropriate newsgroup.
