My pc has died; I have a new one scheduled for delivery in a few days. The hd
from the dead pc is good; I'm going to install it in the new pc as a 2nd
drive so I can get all my necessary data moved to the new hd. When I get OE
setup on the new pc, what exactly do I need to do to copy the old mailfile so
all the mail and folders are useable in the correct new OE appl?
Thank you!

Hi Bill :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

How to backup restore or transfer OE messages and settings:

Courtesy of Steve Cochran:

See:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/backup/index.htm

Note that there is also a link in this article to MVP David Guess's free
OEBackup programs (www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/)

also…..

Create the newly named (Transfer) folder on your destination PC.
Then after the folder (Matching Name) is created, replace the .dbx
from the originating PC.

In addition to the Steve's information:

The Message Store folder contains all the DBX files. Copy these files to a
new desktop folder and browse to the new location when importing them. Check
one of the DBX file Properties to make sure they are not checked Read-Only.
If so, then you will need to uncheck this setting before trying to import.

The KB article below will explain how to import all the files. Follow all
instructions carefully.

To import one folder at a time:

I use the OE Backup tool in case my OE gets corrupted somehow, as it has
done before. I also backup my OE files to a CD just in case the hard drive
crashes. BTDT!! It was a nightmare trying to get all my email addy's again,
and set up everything from scratch. :-(

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Jan! You had the following in your suggestions "Check
one of the DBX file Properties to make sure they are not checked Read-Only.
If so, then you will need to uncheck this setting before trying to import."
Where or what function do I use to check/uncheck the read-only attribute?
Thanks!

Go to the file, highlight it (don't open it) and then right click on it,
select Properties, and look at the bottom of the dialog window and see if
the Read Only box is checked. If so, uncheck it and click OK.

Hope this helps.
