How do I use a custom control such as RTF control?

I asked about mixed formatting in a control, and was advised about the RTF
control. I have downloaded the modules and sample databases, but do not have
the slightest idea how to implement any of this into my own database. The
website has many things which may be useful to me, but unless I take a course
in VB or C++, I doubt that I will be able to implement any of them. Anyone
out there able to give a beginner a step by step about how to use this stuff?
