How do i use a custom background from one ppt in another ppt?

I am attempting to import a background used in a powerpoint presentation into
a different powerpoint presentation (that has been created already), but have
no idea how to save the pre-existing background. What is the easiest way to
do this?
 
One of the easiest ways, is to delete all the slides from the presentation
you want to save as a template file. Save it as a template file (.POT), then
apply that template to your other presentations.
 
Or -- and this is cheating (but it works), you can paste the unformatted
presentation into the presentation with the desired background, delete
unwanted slides, then Save As another file.

Another way!

File > New > from design template

Click browse at the bottom of the pane (make sure files of type = ppt,pps
etc) and choose the existing presentation
