How Do I Update a Driver for a LAN Printer?

This is a basic understanding type of question.

I work at a place where all the printers are accessed through the LAN.
Where are the printer drivers? Do I have a driver for each of the
printers I use installed somewhere on my PC? If so, how do I update the
driver for a specific printer? When I go to the printer properties
dialog, there is no option to change the driver.

Usually.

The usual method is to run Windows Update or go to the manufacturers web
site download them to your HD/CDR and install them on each PC in turn. They
usually self install and overwrite previous versions when executed.

It depends on how it is shared. And if you you have a server centric or a
peer to peer environment. If the print server is a (modern) windows
machine, the drivers reside on the server and are merely linked on the local
workstations. In that case you update the driver on the server. On the
other hand, many "print servers" (and I use the term loosely, just like the
manufacturers) that you just hang on the network and connect to a printer,
the driver reside on the individual workstations, the "print server" just
provides a port to pass the data stream to the printer. In that case you
update the driver on each workstation. In fact, you can have multiple
drivers pointing to the same printer, for different functionalities.
