My IE is sooo messed up that i thought i would try to just get rid of it and
download it new. Although I have closed all programs on my computer and
opened task manager which shows nothing running, when I try to trash IE I get
a message that another program is using it and I must first close this
program. Does anyone know what that might be - something running in the
background?

Thanks for any help.

Bryan,
Thanks so much for the info. I have XP and am a little nervous after
reading the warning about possibly messing up my computer by editing the
registry. The basic problem I am having with IE is that when I go to a site
(which I need to use for business), then click on links within the site to
open different reports so multiple web pages are open, when I close the
secondary page (pages) all of IE closes. If I leave them open and just click
back on the 'main' web page, everything gums up and there is either nothing
now on that page or scattered bits. Do you know what may be causing this?
This just started happening recently. Thanks!!

Hi,
First, clear the cache. It won't hurt- it may help a little.

Update your anti-virus program and run it. Some free AV programs are listed
at http://www.aumha.org/freeware/mfav.htm

Then, check for malware. Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware,
Spybot) at

page.
