I'm a newbie trying to get my AIW 9000 working. After many conflicting
driver problems, I've had to use the XP system restore feature several
times. Apparently along the way some remnants of an old multi-media center
remain in the registry. When I try to install the most current version of
the multi media center, I get an error message that I need to remove an
older version. However, there is no entry in the Uninstall list in Control
Panel. Does anyone have any ideas how to uninstall the old version, or
alternatively how to clean up the registry. Any help would be appreciated.

You need a good registry editor, Dan - one that allows you to view entries
and decide whether to remove them. RegCleaner (part of jv16 Power Tools
suite) is an extremely good one, but unfortunately has just gone commercial.
You can get it from http://www.macecraft.com/ - there is a free trial
version - or alternatively you could try doing a google on "RegCleaner" or
"jv16 Power Tools" for an older freeware copy.

Other than that, there are other registry cleaners like that around,
although I'm not sure which are the good ones.

What you'll need to do is uninstall all your ATi drivers and software
showing in Add/Remove Programs, reboot (with the Windows Standard driver),
then run the app and remove all ATI references showing. Reboot again and
re-install.

I've got the same AIW 9000.
Everytime I think I've got it working either something important is not
working, something flakey is preventing it from working or it quits
completely.

Most of it is working now but the scheduler crashes as it tries to start a
record session.

I'm going to try the uninstall / install once again. catalyst 3.6 mmc 8.5.

I'm using the fix-it (vcom) registry cleaner after the uninstall.

Thanks for the ideas. I've spent several hours cleaning registry entries,
using Regcleaner (I have a copy) and Regedit. I was never able to remove all
the references (mostly device drivers), but I did get it to the point where
I could install the most current drivers, and the most current version of
MMC. This is great progress - thanks.

My current problems are:
1) I've tried to remove the automatic loading of the Launchpad, but
everytime I boot, the Windows Installer runs, and up comes launchpad again.
2) When I try to execute TV, I get the error message: Unable to start TV.
The TV Player failed to initialize the video...

Any ideas??

Thanks

I have the same card, and similar problems.
I found that with MMC8.5, scheduler locked about half the time, but with
MMC8.1 it only locks very rarely.
This fits comments in this NG that 8.1 is more stable than 8.5

You may still have a startup reference to the ATI Lunchbox in one of your
Run Keys. I just discovered recently that RegCleaner can fix this, too: go
to the Starting Programs section, and it'll show you all the apps that are
being started at boot.

If you're running MMC 8.5, it seems well-known for the TV app not starting
or having other problems - I think Laurence Wilmer has mentoned this
elsewhere in this thread. I went back to 8.1 anyway; apparently most of the
new stuff in 8.5 is around EazyLook, so if you don't have a remote, you're
definitely better off with 8.1. If you _do_ have one, it's your decision!
Another issue that's been reported for the 8.5 TV app is very high CPU
usage; I suspect this is around EazyLook, too.

Thanks for all your help. I've spent too much time trying to make this
card/software work. Simply put, it doesn't. I'm off to look at competitive
products.

for an alternate card, check out:
http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/mdp120.asp

i have this in my other pc. it can capture both analog and HDTV broadcast. and
the software far exceeds anything from ATI. this is a tuner card only however,
you still need a video card. it is working fine here wth an ATI AIW (7200 i
think). I just didn't install MMC.

Forgot to include. With the MyHD software you can:
1. Set a record time.
2. Put the PC into suspend.

When the time comes around it will:
1. Bring the PC out of suspend.
2. Record the program in the background.
3. Save the recorded program and put the PC back into suspend or shut down the pc
if you want.

I'd like to see MMC do this. It isn't even smart enough to record in the background
or even shut the TV app down after it finishes a scheduled program!

Basically, you are screwing up. The ATI card and software work well and
reliably when properly installed. You are doing something wrong.

Not a difficult thing to do with ATI software. All you have to do, to get it
wrong and screw up, is to follow one set of ATI instructions from the ATI
website when you ought to have followed another (contradictory) set of ATI
instructions from the ATI website.

As much as I like AIWs in general, I wish ATI would provide a consolidated
update file for it containing all the components, including the latest MMC,
graphics and capture drivers, and a thorough uninstaller of the previous
versions. Although the download would be rather large, you'd only need to
double-click it then reboot when it completes. Every time ATI released one
new component, they could release an updated consolidated version. In a
perfect world I guess.
