Every time I put pc into stand by mode I am unable to resume operations without
switching off at mains, then, switching back on again after 30 seconds, I
have to
wait for windows to reload. Can anyone help please? Am running XP Home.

Click on Start/Control Panel/Power Options and you should be able to
manipulate the standby option.

this one actually gave me a bit of a laugh (No offence), usually you should
be able to move the mouse or press some keys on the keyboard, or is there a
wake up button on your keyboard? or the other option is Hybernate,
technically the same as standby except it takes about 10 seconds longer and
it literally turns the PC off and when you press the "On or Power button" is
resumes to where you are, to to do this press in XP start-->turn of
computer--> then press and hold shift and where standy was there is
Hibernate, press this
