How do I undo "Readable Only" files on XP

I write and save my lectures in My Documents. Then I burn
them to the CD, but after I have done that the documents
become "Readbale Only" and I CANNOT change the
information on the CD.

I have right clicked on the files on the CD, and then
clicked "Properites" and the "Read Only" box is ALREADY
ticked.

I UNTICK the "Read Only" box and click OK, but a menu
pops up saying "error".

I need to be able to access my CD's to add and change the
details. Could someone help me with this issue?

Despite the advances and integration in CD burning in the OS, it is not
possible to directly edit files on a CD. If you want to edit the file you
need to copy it back to your hard drive, or edit the copy already on your
hard drive, and then burn the edited version back to CD again.

This is when you use CD-RW and "import session" or "add to session" in your disk writing software. Simpy send the file you want to edit to "my documents" or where ever you prefer and then copy it back to the CD. It should tell you that this file already exists and would you like to overwrite it? Choose yes. In most cases backup software and even NT Backup can "ammend" the existing media that is written on a CD-RW so if you use the NT Backup wizard I think you are asked if you wish to "append" or "ammend" the existing file, I'm not sure of the exact wording so you can choose to do that. Just remember NT Backup will not span multiple disks. Maybe someone more familiar with NT Backup could help. Have fun. {:~)

Others have mentioned how to work with this situation. Want to add: when
the file is on the hard drive, you may have to uncheck the Read Only box
for the *file* (not the folder, the file) before you can edit it. Right
click the file and choose Properties. You'll see the Read Only box towards
the bottom of the General properties sheet.

I'm having the same problem, except I want to delete the
files and can't. What do you mean post all replys to the
newsgroup only?? What newsgroup?? I want to see the replies!!

The newsgroup "microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics," which is here,
where you posted your message. Because you posted using the
clunky, error-prone web interface, you apparently don't realize
you posted to a newsgroup. Do yourself a favor and switch to a
newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows.
