how do i undo a replaced file?

I accidentally replaced an existing file in word 2003, I've tried undo but it
didn't work. I really need to recover the replaced file.
 
If you don't have a backup it is gone.

If it's very important, there is a slight chance that a professional
data-recovery company might be able to restore all or some of the file, in
which case, stop using the computer at once until you get a chance for then
to have a look at the disc. Otherwise, sorry, your file is lost for good!
