Is there a way to turn off the clipboard in Powerpoint?
I have a 3rd party clipboard program (Clipmate) that I
much prefer, but Powerpoint insists on collecting the
clips and then it intercepts them when I try to paste
them using Clipmate and won't let them be pasted.

I'm not a MVP but I use Clipmate all the time with
Powerpoint and have no trouble.
What specific problems are you having?

Hi,
To turn off the auto clipboard function...in powerpoint -
Select Edit - Office clipboard - Clipboard appears , click arrow near
options -Clear the box near " show clipboard automatically".
This prevents clipboard from popping up automatically.
