Have you tried using the "Book fold" setting for Page Setup | Margins:
Pages: Multiple pages?

Yes Suzanne I have. The problem is reformatting the text and tables in the
orginal doucment and then collating the whole document so when it does print
(2-UP via my duplex printer) it recognises i/ page 1 and 40 need to be side
by side, page 2 and page 39 etc.. and ii/ they need to be printed so they're
the same way up on either side; in other words a recognition of the
properties of a booklet. I've tried opening a new document, selecting book
fold etc..and then copying in the previous text but it doesn't reformat. Am I

"Book fold" is not compatible with printing 2 UP through the printer driver,
as it is already printing two pages per sheet (and it combines pages 40 and
1, 2 and 39, etc., automatically). Text should reflow without any problems;
tables will be more problematic (though setting the table width to 100%
helps). Many users have reported problems duplexing booklets. "Book fold" is
really best used for printing camera-ready copy to be duplexed on a copier
or by a commercial printer. For another method, see
