Hi,

I'm a MS Office trainer who has been asked to organise a few Intro. courses
in Outlook (2000). I don't use Outlook myself but have a trainer who can
train in it. Problem is, in my small training classroom we have never
trained in Outlook and are not setup for same.

Could someone tell me what I need to have installed to use outlook in the
classroom for sending mails between students and sharing calendars etc.
Obviously we have the Outlook client part (which we bought with Office 2K)
but do we have to buy server software like Exchange or is there some less
expensive way.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Jay.

Hi Jay,
for sending mails between students

you do not need an Exchange Server, for this function you will need a local
"mailserver" or an internet provider.

A good nearly freeware mailserver is the "janaserver":

and sharing calendars etc

You can use an Exchange server to share Outlook but you could also try other
3rd party solutions:

Outlook sharing solutions:

Office Marketplace Outlook messaging tools:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/CE010719621033.aspx
which we bought with Office 2K

Outlook has 2 different "modes":

Internet Mail Mode Only = IMO
Corporate Workgroupe Mode = CW

If you want to work in a workgroup, you will need Outlook in CW mode.

Maybe it helps.
