How do I take a picture of my desktop?

I know how to take a picture of the file that is currently selected, but how
do I take a picture of everything that is on my screen? I would apreciate any
light that could be shed on this matter.

select printscreen key on your keyboard to create a screen shot of all
visible items on your screen....Select Alt+Printscreen key to create a
screen shot of the currently active window....

PrtScn to capture entire window.

ALT + PrtScn to capture active window.

Either of these captures must be pasted to a graphics program such as Paint or
your favorite application.

You could even paste to Word document.
