How do I stop from having to click the Icon to laod personal setti

Okay, I feel really dumb that I can't find out where to change this. . .
I recently had my hard drive die and had to have a new one installed. I've
gotten Windows XP SP2 loaded and configured and all of the programs
configured the way I want them, EXCEPT I'm having one frustrating issue. As
part of my old settings (and it's set this way on my husband's laptop but I
can't backtrack to where we set it up) I never had to click the icon on the
windows startup splash screen that says "to begin click your username" and
then it "loads your personal settings." Before the reinstall, whenever I had
to reboot my computer, it would just automatically load settings without me
having to click and tell it to do so. So, how do I change the settings so
that it automatically loads my settings without having to click the icon? (I
hope I've explained this clearly enough.) As a side note, I am the only user
of the computer (no multiple user accounts) and as the only user I am also
the administrator.

Here are two options.

1. Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft. TweakUI is
available here.

Once the program is installed, go to Start -> All Programs ->
Powertoys for Windows XP -> TweakUI.
Click the + sign next to Logon in the left hand column.
Click on Autologon.
In the right hand pane, put a check mark in the box next to
"Logon automatically at system startup".
Enter the name of your user account in the User Name box.
Hit the Set Password button and enter your password twice.
Note: You should skip this step if your account has a blank
password.
Click OK to close TweakUI.
Restart your computer to see if you get the desired results.

2. Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on the account you
want to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

Thank you very much for the quick response. I used method 2 and it worked
like a charm. I'm just wondering what exactly the .net framework thing is
and why it is needed? I think I had it on my computer before the hard drive
death and I didn't have to do the "tweak" in the user accounts. I noticed
that on my husband's laptop, he had .net framework 2.0 and he didn't have to
use that "tweak" (ie. the box when we went in and looked at that control
userpasswords2 was still checked.) So, I looked at my Add/Remove Programs,
and I have .net framework 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0! Do I NEED all THREE?? Can I go
into Add/Remove Programs and get rid of 1.1 and 3.0 or 1.1 and 2.0? I'm just
wondering what the necessity of having all 3 is and why a newer version
wouldn't just replace an older version?
 
You're welcome. Glad to hear you were able to get back to
logging on automatically.

As for your question about having three versions of the .NET
framework, you should leave all three installed. Some older
programs on your computer may not work properly if you
uninstall version 1.1.

FYI, there are security updates available for .NET versions 1.1
and 2.0. You might want to visit the Windows Update web site if
you don't see them listed in Add or Remove Programs. Make sure
you've checked the box at the top of the window to show
updates.

Thanks again! I did have the security updates for 2.0, but noticed that I
didn't have the hotfix for 1.1, so I got that. Again, thanks for the help in
getting me past the login screen.
