How do I start Epson 1650 twain?

I reinstalled my system this weekend. Instead of installing the smartpanel
that lets you launch all the scanner apps I simply installed the newest 1650
driver and the scan to print (photocopy) utility. I was able to locate the
photocopy utility and it's .exe to start it up...but am not sure where to
find the "start" button for simply scanning. I know that I can load
photoshop or other software and start it from there but want to be able to
simply scan a document as if I hit the "scan to file" button on the
smartpanel without having to start an program inbetween.

Thanks

Do the buttons on the front of the scanner work?

Q

Ah...those buttons...the ones my kids CONSTANTLY hit and I have to disable.
For some reason when I go to control panel and try to activate or deactivate
them I can't make any changes...it's all grayed out. I have always disabled
them becaue it's just TOO great a temptation for my children. :)

My impression is that the TWAIN interface is not an 'app', but a
'driver/link'. It has no capability to 'store' or 'save' an image.
That part is done by an 'app', such as your 'copy to print' utility.

Try using a graphics app to get to the 1650 TWAIN interface. For
example, open Photoshop, or Corel, or Elements, etc. Look in
File>Import, or File>Acquire, or something like that. That should give
you a listing of the TWAIN driver you're looking for, and should launch
the driver, from which you can do all of the scan adjustments.

Hope this makes sense. Good luck.

It makes perfect sense...it's just what I as trying to avoid. I just don't
want to fire up Photoshop every time I want to scan. Plus the epson
software had a nice interface that showed you small thumbnail of what you
had scanned, lets you rename before saving, lets you adjust amount of
compression, etc. I just thought it was all part of the twain....scanner
driver. It appears it may be part of the smartpanel...which I'll just load
it appears.

Thanks

I understand your not wanting to start Photoshop for every scan. I
think you will get the result you're looking for after you reinstall
SmartPanel. It's the 'app' in the equation, and it does the tasks
you're looking to do.

If you do not want to "fire up" Photoshop every time you want to scan, try
Irfanview. It is quick and has a TWAIN interface that works very well with
scanners.

Get the plug-ins, Irfanview is not much without them.
