how do i start a server?

how do i set up a remote desktop server so that i can
view/control from another computer? (both xp pro) thanks
 
Take a look at

and follow the links to the MS howtos..

If you have a router or firewall, you will need to open up and/or
forward TCP Port 3389 to the private IP address of your server (run
IPCONFIG from a command prompt to get this address). Finally, you
will be able to connect from another location on the internet by using
your public/WAN IP address (you get this by browsing to
http://checkip.dyndns.org/ from your server machine... NOTE - THIS IP
ADDRESS CAN COMMONLY CHANGE).
