How do I sort names in Outlook 2003 Calendar

Using Micrsoft Outlook 2003,
Contact names in calendar automatically appear in alphabeticaly order. I
wish to turn this function off and have tried to use the sort button but it
is grayed out.

What I do is cut them from the "To" box and paste them into Word or Excel (whichever I happen to have open) and fix the sort order there, then paste them back into the "To" box. It sounds a big deal, but it only takes a moment. Proviso - if this is a distribution list, it won't save your sort order - you have to keep doing it. When it's important, I just keep a text version of the correct sort order in Notes or in the notes section of a Contact that I can quickly cut and paste when I need it.

Hope this helps.

That doesn't guarantee that the recipients will see the list in any particular
order. You're wasting your time.

Odd. They always do...
It's oddly important to people, so I check - never had it not work. Why do you say that?

Because the mail client gets to process the recipient fields in any order it
wishes. There's no promise that it will process them in the order you entered
the addresses. It may be that Outlook will maintain the order, but I wouldn't
bet my paycheck on it.
