I am using Outlook 2000 on an XP Home laptop with four user accounts. I want
all four users to share a common .pst file for emails, notes and calendar. I
have managed to make Outlook visible to all four users but when it opens it
creates a unique .pst file for each user in their individual /Local
Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/Outlook folders.

Create (or move) a .PST file file in a shared location (C:\OutlookData
if you like).

Go into Tools | Options | Mail Setup | Data Files and point each one of
the profiles at the common .PST.

Thanks Ben, thought you'd cracked it then but I don't have the Options/Mail
Setup tab in Outlook 2000. Any further suggestions?

Danke Andreas,
Control Panel/Mail opens an Internet Accounts menu box with no Datafiles
option. Is it that you guys are talking about Outlook set up as a Corporate
system rather than Internet Email only? I cannot find anywhere to direct
Outlook where to look for the .pst file. I can specify where to Import from
but it creates one by default when you open it as a new user, at no point can
I force it to another location.

Thanks so far, I feel we must be getting closer to the solution.

For each WinXP user, open Outlook, right-click the root folder of the
Personal Folders File, click Properties, then the Advanced button. Make
note of the file path in the Filename box. Close Outlook, then find that
file in Windows Explorer (you will have to enable searching in hidden
folders), and rename it or move it somewhere else. When you restart
Outlook, it will complain it can't find the .PST file. Point it to the
shared .PST file you created (following Ben's instructions in his first
paragraph).

Dear TCM

1.) only as additional information:

The solution of Ben works only if one user (of the 4) have an access to the
"common PST" and the other are not connected to the "common PST". You can
not share (without third party tools) a common PST file with more then 1
user in the same time. It works only if one of the 4 users have a temporary
access to the common PST file.

For Third Party tools who share PST file as not "temporary" solution:

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm

2.) For Outlook 2000

To open an available PST file (common or local) in Outlook 2000 go in the
Outlook Menu under "File/open/Personal Folder PST".

(Outlook 2000 does not have a "File/Datamanagement", this is built in up to
Outlook 2002/2003)
