How do I set up briefcase -

Somewhat helpful - but I now need to know how to set up a directory and the
help and support screen talks about "virtual directories".....I need
something in plain english so I understand what it is I am doing....

You've lost me -- what help and support screen? Are you talking about
Windows help? If so, what version of Windows, and what is the name of the
help article you're reading? A "directory" is basically just a folder...

You have answered my question, but I looked up "create a directory" on the
Windows help screen and got virtual directories....In the post that I read, I
did create a "folder" (directory) titled my briefcase on my desktop and on my
laptop; and I put the list of documents in there that I wanted to keep
between my laptop and my desktop - then I went to synchronize and it didn't
do anything other than say all folders were up to date (I have a home
wireless network that my laptop goes onto when I use it) - so now I have a
list of documents on my desktop under my briefcase and another list of
documents on my laptop under my briefcase and I need to have all of the
documents on both - so that is my current dilemma - I have a travel drive
that I put both sets of documents on so I will use that to keep all documents
updated but it still does not solve my dilemma of updating the documents on
my desktop and laptop.....any suggestions???

Go back to http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/sync.htm#briefcase and follow the
instructions there. The only files that should synchronize are the ones that
are different -- you would need to delete your Outlook data file on the
laptop first and replace it with the one from your desktop, then after you've
used Outlook on the laptop, use the briefcase to sync that file back to your
desktop.
