How do I set up automatic send/receive upon startup or fix this bu

I already have "Send immediately when connected" checked. I still have to
click send/receive to make it happen. I would hate to have to re-install and
re-customize my outlook to fix a microsoft bug. Please advise

Define a send/receive interval (Tools>Options>>Mail Setup>Send/Receive) and
Outlook will perform a send/receive upon startup.
