I am setting up a spreadsheet w/ the top half using gridlines and the bottom
half blank to type in information I need concerning the subject. I don't
know how get rid of the gridlines after I'm done wi/the spreadsheet which is
the top half of the page.

You may be better off adding a textbox (View|Toolbars|Drawing) to add
documentation.
best wishes

Gridlines are all or nothing, tools options, view gridlines, maybe you could
cut gridlines off and use borders in the cells that you want lines around

Using Excel 2002 & 2003

You could merge the cells below the gridline to make a text box. Or merge
several sets of cells depending on how you wnat the info below to appear.

Alternately: You can turn off the gridlines. Gridlines themselves don't
print. Format the upper half with borders to designate the lines you do want
to see.

Leave gridline turned on.

In the bottom part where you don't to see them, Format the cells to "White"
background.

The gridlines will disappear in those cells.
