I do not want absolute paths in my graphics and hyperlinks. How do I enter
them in Front Page so that they aren't defaulted to the folder on my hard
disk?

Work with your web/site opened. Import images into FP first before placing
images into the design...the rest will be taken care of automajickly by FP.

1. Make sure that you have created a web / site first (create a folder then open the folder in FP
and allow it to make it a web / site).

2. Always open the web / site in FP using File Menu | Open Web / Site first.

3. Always create or import external files into your current open FP web / site prior to using the
files in the current open web.

Open the web in FrontPAge (File->Open web)
Import all the images into the web (File->Import )
Make sure the page the images are to be placed on has been saved before you
place the images on it.
Drag the images onto the page from the folder in the open web.

The images will have relative links in Code or HTML view. The link in the
status bar may still show an absolute link, but it's the Code view that is
important.
