how do i set up a network between a laptop and my pc?

you have two choices, provided that both your computers
have network cards installed in or else you need to get
them and install.
1. connect them directly to each other - you need to get a
cross over RJ-45 (or cat5) cable from Microcenter/Compusa.
2. connect them thru a hub - you need to have a hub and 2
regular RJ-45 cables.

Once they are connected, make sure they are on the same
workgroup.
