How do I set up a default font for the free-text area of a Contact dialogue?
I have set up default fonts for new email messages and forwarding and
replying to messages, but the font that automatically defaults in the Contact
window is a different font than any I have designated elsewhere. I end up
having to change it everytime I type additional info within a contact.

While I can set the font for individual contact records, I can find no
setting that changes the default for all, so I suspect it's set in the form
itself. Perhaps you can define a new form with the font size you want.
Perhaps one of the MVPs familiar with forms will verify.

The body of a contact uses for its default font the same font that's defined as the default for mail messages. It's not possible to have a different default for different types of items or to define a default font with a custom form.

Sue, the font that appears in the body of my contacts is Ariel Black which is
not the same as any of the default fonts for my email. For new messages, the
font is Trebuchet MS and for forwards and replys it is Tahoma. So where is
the Ariel Black coming from?

I don't know. I've never seen any behavior other than that I described. Let us know if you find a clue.
