How do I send an automated email reminder for a calendar event ?

I would like to send an email to all the contacts listed against an event
with a reminder. e.g. For our annual stocktake, I have set up a recurring
reminder, and have myself and four branch managers in the contacts list for
it, I would like the system to automatically generate an EMAIL reminder to
the contacts list. We have Exhange Server 2000 and a mix of Outlook 2000 and
Outlook 2003.
