I email a .dat file as an attachment. The recipient can only download what I
send if it is in a data format. The data keeps getting reformatted to a text
file when I send it. What do I do to enable the data file to remain in a
data format when the recipient recieves it?

ok...call me "dummy". How do I put in into a .zip archive? and How does the
recipient download it? thanks

I use a tool called WinZip from http://www.winzip.com . Windows XP can read
..zip files, or the recipient may have a copy of WinZip or a similar tool
themselves.

You could also try changing the file extension from .dat to something else.
That extension may be triggering something in a mail server through which
the message passes.
