How do I search for a word in a text file if it isn't named *.txt?

I have a folder with tons of text files that have random extensions.
(filename.SPX, filename.SP1, filename.SP2, etc...) If I were to put a
..txt etension after all these files then I could do a windows search
for a "word or phrase in the file" just fine, but if I don't, the
search yeilds nothing. Is there a way for the windows search function
to work w/o renaming all these files? Thanks!!!

Someone more clever about Windows Search than I will probably come along
with the answer, but in the meantime consider using the free search
tool Agent Ransack. I much prefer it to XP's Search function.

second Malke's recommendation to use Agent Ransack for your searching needs.
