Re: how do I save a vista powerpoint so apple macs can open it

Vista is the operating system that runs the computer. It has no bearing on the
PPT version.

What version of PowerPoint do you have?

And the Mac pretty much has to have a copy of Powerpoint in order to open
anything you'd save from PPT.

Steve: I think Richard was asking how he could save the latest version of
Windows Powerpoint (ie the one issued around the same time as Vista) so that
it could be read by Powerpoint 2004 on a Mac.

Anyhow, my question is related to this query but totally on a PC: one of my
clients is using Powerpoint 2003. Can Vista Powerpoint (ie the latest
version of Powerpoint) be used to create a new presentation and that saved
down so it can be read by PPT 2003 on a PC???

Thx

Sol

Could be, but older versions of PPT run under Vista as well; the answer'd be
different beween 2007 and older versions.

I'm too lazy to write a long essay covering all the possibilities when a simple
question will help focus the answer. said:

There is no Vista PowerPoint. There's PowerPoint 2007, released at the same
time as Vista in round numbers, but which also runs on other Windows versions.

And yep, 2007 will save in 97-2003 format, so it can be read by previous PPT
versions (both PC and Mac).

There's also a conversion pack (for PC; the mac one is still in the works) that
enables earlier versions of PPT to open and save files in native 2007 PPTX
format.

The one caveat: saving "down-rev" like this doesn't magically bestow PPT2007's
new features on earlier versions. Instead it translates new features (glows,
3d effects, etc) into something that earlier versions can display (but not
necessarily edit). Your 2007 text with a glow around it may turn into a
picture in earlier versions.

Thx Steve. To be precise (or pedantic) what I was referring to was PPT 2007
(and I think Richard was too).
