I am having the problem as described in KB article
269065. It says to edit the registry, but I am not able
to start windows and can only get into the System
Recovery Console. Can I run the regedt32 from the
command line in SRC?

Thanks,
Ed

If you have a backup of the registry, (saved
through Windows backup (as checked box when you make an
emergency boot disk)), you can boot from your installation
CD, then (R)epair, then (C)onsole.

Console will let you into C:\ and C:\%systemroot% and
subdirectories ONLY. Assuming your systemroot is WINNT,
go to C:WINNT\system32\config your registry files are
DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, SYSTEM, ntuser.dat and
UsrClass.dat. Copy DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, and
SYSTEM with different extentions, like .LST (Last).

Then go to C:\WINNT\repair\regback and copy those same
files to C:\WINNT\system32\config. Then reboot. You
don't really need the ntuser.dat and UsrClass.dat. They
go in C:\Documents and Setting\%BackupUser% and
C:\Documents and Setting\%BackupUser%\\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows respectively,
which you can't access anyway through SRC.

Good luck!
