OK Heres the thing, I've been writitng a piece on a forum, its a list and
I've lost half of it, but I know its on the clipboard somewhere about three
or four cuts away.

How do I retrieve that information in Vista?

The computer has not been switched off since it happened....is there some
software that will be able to find it?

Usually you can Paste from the clipboard to a text document or other word
processor document. Open a txt file and try Edit-Paste

AFAIK There is no way to retrieve anything other than the last thing you
copied to the clipboard.

I know it hold more than the last thing in the clipboard...you might not be
able to retrieve it easily as you can only ever paste the last thing but its
still there. Is there a way in Word to do it? I saw a trick in Office XP that
could do it but unfortunately Office 2007 doesnt work the same....real pain!!!

Eskimosound - If you are refering to Windows own clipboard, it holds only the
last thing copied, even after a restart.
However, I have discovered a handy, free mini-clipbaord that stores numerous
items - URLs; text; etc. It retains these always, so far, in my own
experience. It is better than the Sidebar gadget that only retains the last 5
items and deletes the older items.

This is something for the next generation of Windows to have. It's a
timesaver!

Hi Eskimosound,

I think you are getting confused by the Windows clipboard and the Office
clipboard. The Windows clipboard is only able to hold one item at a time -
placing another item onto that clipboard replaces the item already there with
no way of recovering the previous item. The Office clipboard is slightly
different - this can hold upto 24 items at any one time, each of which can be
accessed individually.

I hate to butt in however this old man needs HELP; I have a vista home
premium with microsoft word processor: Twice when working on a long and
important letter the text of the letter just disappeared. I have tried
everything I can think of to replace or find it. Nothing works, the Title of
the Document remains but nothing else. I need to know if the text can be
restored or if the whole of the thing is lost???? I am (e-mail address removed)

Hi,

I had forgotten about this thread until the latest post, 3 months later! An
alternative method, which I sometimes use especially on a post requiring a
complex answer, is to use Notepad and enter the post there. You can save the
post regularly, and when you have finished you merely copy the text into
required location on the forum, or wherever. This has saved me a lot of
re-writing in the past.

To couronette question.

I have never had that to happen to me, so not sure what exactly might be
occurring here which is very strange.

My Word 2k program is set to save the document every 5min. When the DOC is
opened there's the backup in the document folder.

Another way is to simply hit the save button which normally puts it into
your Document folder unless you manually changed it by the Word program

To Eskimosound below on his/her question..

Right click and paste usually dumps the info or CTRL key and V key will
paste also..

BUT,, once you copy something .. then copy something else.. that first copy
is gone in clipboard..
