How do I retrieve protected files from another hard drive?

I had another computer which for all intents and purposes...died!
I put the hard drive from that computer into another computer I have
also with XP installed. My bad hard drive is readable although i cannot
access my documents because (I believe) it was originally password
protected.
I have tried to apply ownership to it although I cannot bring up the
security tab on properties. I read that if i disable simplified sharing
then it will appear, however I cannot find this check box in the
advanced folder options area!
So as you can see its one problem after another so if anyone can help I
would be very greatfull.

Hi m1ke,

If the computer is running XP Home Edition, you have to start the computer
in Safe Mode and then log onto an Administrator account in order to access
the Security tab in Properties.

If you're running XP Home Edition you'll have to boot into Safe
Mode in order to access the Security tab. Restart your computer
and hit the F8 key until you see a menu with startup options.

Good luck
