What happened is I could not get XP to boot no matter
what I tried on my Maxtor 40Gig. Hard Drive. So i Bought
a new Maxtor 30 Gig. hard drive and installed Windows XP
on it and now that i am up and running again i want to
know how to reconnect my old hard drive and retrieve all
my files.....i plan on moving the files to my new HDD and
formatting the old to make a separate storage device out
of it....say...like drive H:

Can anyone explain in easy terms how to do this? I tried
to plug it in to my Slave drive cable from th emother
board but then my PC doesn't start up it just goes to the
A:> prompt.

Your help would be appreciated.

Try connecting the old hard drive as the master drive on the secondary
IDE channel. That is the one that is normally used for the
CDROM/CDRW/DVD drive(s).

Easiest way of doing this is to unplug the data cable and power
connector from the CDROM etc and use that to connect up the old hard
drive.

That avoids any and all problems with jumper settings.

Great game last night.
