Hi - I run a personal web site on my home WinXP PC, over a DSL line.

I would like to implement password-based access to some pages on my
site. How is this done? The site is authored with FrontPage 2003.

The Home page has a link to a page which has personal content, which
has links to other local pages.

My XP has Frontpage Server Extensions and the update loaded. The pages
are in a separate folder in the web site root on my local Windows XP
PC.

I have tried creating a subsite, but cannnot set permission from within
FrontPage since the Tools, Server menu item is greyed out.

Help would be most appreciated.

Do you need just one static password or will users create there own unique
passwords which will require a database of some sort.

Use "IIS Password" from Troxo.com.

It's free, and puts a tab in your IIS manager through which you can control
user/pass accounts on a folder or file basis.

It works in IIS on XP too.

Or, set up separate accounts on your machine and use NTFS permissions on the
file structure.

Hi. I just need a static password that I can change periodically. What
can you suggest? Troxo looks great for a little further down the road
though - thanks for the pointer.

I tried to get it to work with NTFS permissions but couldn't get it
right. Either I blocked all access or the page wasn't secured. Let me
describe the scenario:

- default.htm is in the root folder
- family.htm is in the Family folder, off the root
- default.htm has a menu link to family.htm
- I want people to be asked for a password when they clikc the link to
the family page

Advice from all is appreciated.
