how do I remove unwanted re-direction.

If I miss-type a web address in the address bar, I'm
automatically redirected to a bogus web site. I'd rather
receive a message "web site not found" or something
similar which was the default until soemthing changed it.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that sie does not fix the problem please post back
