The Multiple UNC Provider (MUP) system component is responsible for
locating the correct network provider for UNC connections. MUP is used to
decide which redirector will be used to connect to a UNC resource. It is
installed by default in Windows and is also used for DFS. Does the machine
"hang" at "MUP initailizing"? Does it continue. Do you have Gateway
Services for Netware installed?

Yes, exactly.
Thank you very much.
One more question: I receive a message at startup "MUP initailizing"
this is new and strange. I did aa internet search and came up with it is a
netware thing MUP.sys. I dont use netware and have never installed it. Any
suggestions?

The services are "Simple TCP/IP Services", uninstall from Network and
Dial-up Connections/Advanced/Optional Networking Components/Networking
Services
and most likely "Print Services for Unix", uninstall from Network and
Dial-up Connections/Advanced/Optional Networking Components/Other File and
Print Services

My networking stopped working aftet I reinstalled win2000 (the install has
sp4 integrated). Now I try to remove tcpip and it says that two services
are
dependant on it......simple tcpip and unix tcipi. I have never installed
these services or protocals. So I figured that I would just remove the
tcpip
service but it just wont go away. any ideas?
